Iranian islands Hormoz & Qeshm were not in our plans till the moment we met in Yazd 2 amazing, Polish travelers – Edyta and Wojtek – www.smakowanie-świata.pl. Thanks to them we decided to change our plans and spontaneously go to the Persian Gulf. Both islands impressed us a lot! After one night spent in a bus, we arrived to Bandar-e Abbas harbor from where we went to Queshm. From Queshm we went by ferry to Hormoz and we went back to Bandar-e Abbas. Our trip were basically a triangle on a map. Both islands, despite the fact are diverse, amazing places, are not a destiny of tourists! Which is what we like :)! Population that lives here is Arabian origin (called bandari) on the contrary to the rest of the country where most of the people are Persians. Their skin is a bit darker. Women are not afraid of colors – chadars and hijabs have different colors and ornaments on the contrary to Iranian women who prefer black or grey colors. Very characteristic for this region are female masks covering nose that reminds a bit birds’ bows 😉
It is possible to ride around Queshm in one day from dust to down. We had a bit less time so we did not go everywhere where we wanted but we are still satisfied. So, from the beginning: Chakook Canyon with deep wells where you can draw water. It is unbelievable how the Earth is shaped! Our next stop were untypical rock forms in sand color in different shapes in Tandisha valley. We recommend going there before the sunset. The next attraction are strange, mangrove forests growing from the middle of salt water. You can rent a boat and go around among the bushes of plants but we decided that it could be boring :P. A village Laft was a really interesting place famous for wooden ships’ shipyard – the style if building them is unchanging for many years. While exploring the island we saw a small herd of wild camels. Good that we were in a car cause those curious camels did not look like they were happy to see us. The attraction here is also a salt cave Namakhdam but we did not manage to get there.
Hormoz is a small island 44m2 which totally impressed us. It’s Rainbow Valley – rocks in every possible colors, red beaches and magic atmosphere that something that you need to check ourselves. Because of this red earth and different colors of rock formations we thought that we are on a different planet! Just check out our gallery:)
hello!! thank you for sharing your experiences. We are planning on going to Hormoz and Queshm but i wonder how did you get to one place to the other? I have seen that there are small motorbikes in Hormoz island that can be rented but havent found anything for Queshm…. thank!
Hey Adriana! Thank you for your comment 🙂 So as Hormoz is much smaller than Queshm you can probably go around by yourself and one day should be enough. But we don’t know anything about renting a motorbikes there. We took a car with driver in Hormoz as we didn’t have much time there. There are also share taxis and motorbike taxis which are probably cheaper 🙂 And from one island to another there are ferries. We went from Queshm to Hormoz and with last boat we went to Bandar Abbas from where we took a night bus to Shiraz. We stayed 2 nihgts in Queshm but again because we had just one full day there we shared with our friend a car with the driver. But it should be possible to rent a bike there too 🙂 Both ilands are very magical..oh we have so good memories from there :D! Have a wonderfull time! And let us know if you will need more info 🙂
